A Word from the Webmaster

I hope you are enjoying the Marywood University Website's new look.  What you see now is just the first phase of our site redesign:  the homepage, our main navigational pages and selected areas of the site.

Our new graphic look was professionally designed to integrate with the new “Lead On” print materials and signage you have been seeing on campus, in mailings, etc.  You can expect to see more and more of our 7,000+ page website take on this new look in the coming months. Though the look of the site is different, you should be able to find information in the places you are used to using.  Most of the links on the homepage and navigational pages are the same as they were before, some have been shifted to new positions, some have been renamed.  To assist you, I’ve created a “Where Is It Now?” page that maps the differences between the old and new homepages.

Some new features you might not want to miss:

• Virtual Tour -- Take your choice:  an interactive map that lets you move about the campus, click and get a short description or each of our buildings – or – a Disabilities Act (Section 508)-compliant map that provides detailed information about each building at the click of your mouse.  Go here, too, for driving directions, a printable map and information about local lodging.  Coming soon:  a stand-alone building directory.

• Calendar of Events -- You will find calendar feeds on the homepage and topic/audience related feeds on other pages within the site.  On the Calendar page, you can view all the events on campus or filter your view in a variety of ways. Click on one of the calendar links on the side of the page for a specialized view.  Enter a keyword for a customized calendar.  On the bottom left corner, we introduce a “tag cloud.”  Click on one of the words here to filter the calendar for events tagged with that key word.  Look for the list of custom calendars to grow.  See the note below about submitting events to the calendar.

• A-Z Index -- We have replaced the former site index with an alphabetized list of links.  You can filter the list by clicking on a letter of the alphabet at the top of the page.  This index will grow as more and more departmental sites are moved into our new system.

• News & Announcements with RSS Feeds -- We’ve reorganized our news and announcements page to put this information right at your fingertips.  We have put together the information formerly provided under the headings of News & Events and Marywood Messenger on one page.  In addition, you will see RSS feed graphics next to various topic headings.  Click on these to add an RSS bookmark to your Internet browser and get the news you choose any time!

• Submission of calendar and news items – Anyone in the campus community can submit events for the Calendar of Events and news items for the News and Announcements/Marywood Messenger pages.  Look for a link on their respective pages.  Your submissions will be reviewed and approved and those accepted may be edited before appearing on the site.
